This week, the cosmos delivers a potent and transformative combination of energies as Pluto stations direct while traveling out of bounds, amplifying its already powerful themes of death, rebirth, and the exposure of hidden truths. Adding creative fire to the mix, the asteroid Pallas Athena aligns with Saturn in Aries and harmonizes with Mars in Leo, inspiring courageous action and strategic thinking in support of social causes. The week invites us to examine where we have given away our personal power, and to take meaningful steps toward reclaiming our sovereignty. Astrologer Pam Younghans guides us through the planetary highlights of October 12 to 18, 2026.

EXTREME PLUTO: Paradoxically labeled a "dwarf planet" by astronomers, Pluto is known to astrologers as one of the most powerful influences in our solar system. This week, Pluto's energies are at a heightened level as it comes to a standstill and turns direct, while also being "out of bounds."

All planets in our solar system generally follow the "plane of the ecliptic," the path of the Sun as it appears to orbit around the Earth. From time to time, however, some of the planets travel far enough outside of that orbital path that they are said to be out of bounds (OOB)—literally beyond the Sun's domain, and symbolically no longer following the rules. We might think of an OOB planet as a wildcard, uncontained and often acting in unforeseen or extreme ways.

2025 to 2035: We are currently in year two of an eleven-year period in which Pluto travels OOB for three to five months each year. In 2026, the planet has wildcard status for 120 days, from August 12 to December 10. During this time, we expect to see a heightened grasping for power and control, as well intensified emotions and obsessions. In the positive, our ability to see through deceptions and illusions is enhanced, allowing hidden truths and agendas to be revealed.

In effect, while the God of the Underworld is OOB, we are engaged in a profound process of death and rebirth, of destruction and regeneration, of purging and restoration. That which has been toxic, unnecessary, or superficial is revealed and stripped away, leaving the space for us to reclaim our personal power and sovereignty.

2025 to 2035 will be the last time Pluto goes OOB for thousands of years. With the planet currently in progressive Aquarius, this window of time offers a rare opportunity for us to embrace a profound paradigm shift.

On an individual level, Pluto OOB pushes us to become more conscious of the fear-based patterns and beliefs that have robbed us of our self-determination and caused us to hand our power over to others. On a societal level, Pluto OOB first demands that we face the truth of our collective agreements. As power abuses are revealed, lies and manipulations are exposed, and the people choose to unite—to no longer participate in the destructive games that divide us—we have the opportunity to evolve into a more enlightened humanity.

CREATIVE SOLUTIONS: The asteroid Pallas Athena is in the spotlight this week as it aligns with Saturn in Aries and is in harmonious aspect to Mars in Leo. Athena is the representative of Divine Creative Intelligence, and in Greek mythology was the wise and courageous counsellor, healer, and strategist. Astrologically, the asteroid expresses itself through the visual arts, in healing techniques that integrate mind and body, and in social activism—especially in being an advocate for oppressed minorities.

The courage of our convictions is likely to be very strong and highly motivating toward the end of this week. Mars will be trine both Athena and Saturn on Friday, and the Saturn-Athena conjunction will perfect on Sunday. We have the confidence and the determination to take action—perhaps to campaign against unjust laws—along with the patience and maturity needed to support long-term success.

DAILY ASPECTS THIS WEEK (October 12 to 18, 2026):

Monday

No major aspects are exact today.

Tuesday

Sun sesquiquadrate Uranus: People are restless and perhaps somewhat rebellious today. We have less tolerance for injustice and for restrictions on our freedom of speech.

Wednesday

No major aspects are exact today.

Thursday

Sun sextile Jupiter: This is a subtle but hopeful aspect, supporting us in being more confident and in seeing from a higher perspective.

Pluto stations direct: Pluto completes its five-month retrograde phase today, stationing direct at 7:40 p.m. PDT. Since Pluto is square both retrograde Venus and Mars as it comes to a standstill, we may see specific developments in gender-based issues at this time.

Mercury sesquiquadrate Neptune: It might be hard to concentrate today. The mind is more inclined to daydream than to focus on practical matters.

Friday

Mars trine Saturn, Mars trine Pallas Athena: We are able to harness our creative fire and to use it productively and strategically with these aspects. Initiative, wisdom, and discipline work in harmony.

Venus quincunx Uranus: The need to honestly speak our minds can cause disruptions in relationships today. This aspect can also manifest as impulsive spending.

Saturday

Uranus semisquare Ceres: Some may take unexpected risks or feel a need to rebel against others' expectations. The urge to speak one's truth could cause upsets with family members.

Sunday

Sun opposite Eris: We may feel easily irritated today, especially if we have a history of denying our own needs in order to please others.

Saturn conjunct Pallas Athena: We are capable of hard work at this time, especially in support of a social cause. This can be a good time to formulate a long-term strategy or business plan.

If Your Birthday Is This Week (October 12 to 18, 2026):

The balance between self and other is a strong theme for this year. If you have a habit of downplaying your own needs in order to make others happy, or have sacrificed your values when they conflicted with those of a loved one, you may find that you become increasingly irritable or even angry when you repeat these patterns. Fortunately, your sense of humor and ability to find creative solutions are both enhanced, helping diffuse the tension.
